How to Make Coconut Oil-homemade Oil (6 Easy DIY Steps)


Homemade Coconut oil has been proven to be a beneficial oil for both health and beauty.

Coconut  oil is packed with antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties.

It is one of the best oils for weight watchers when used in moderation and can also make a simple meal taste so heavenly. you could easily walk into your local store or supermarket and pick up a jar of coconut oil, which are flooded with countless types and types of cooking oil, but finding a pure and unadulterated coconut oil seems like a pretty challenging task.

The tradition of how to make coconut oil goes back to a time when our grandmothers would take the silky liquid from nuts and seeds or use leftover malai to make real desi ghee at home that was kept for cooking.

Due to commercialization and the need for convenience, most of us have switched over the years to packaged factory-made refined oils that are often loaded with emulsifiers, additives and hydrogenated fats.

Then I decided to make coconut  oil at home, though I only experimented with just one large coconut, I’ld say, it was worth all the effort and definitely sticking to homemade coconut oil.


Health benefits of homemade coconut oil

1. It is a good moisturizer, especially for newborn babies because it is mild and fresh.

2. You should have a teaspoon of coconut oil before breakfast, early in the morning. It is good for your stomach and helps stimulate your digestion. 

3. It can help lower bad cholesterol, most of the refined oils we use today have been found guilty of causing cholesterol problems.

4. It is a great beauty ingredient and can help control dandruff and prevent acne.

5. Homemade coconut oil is a great remedy for canker sores. Apply some coconut oil to the sores and leave it overnight. The next morning you will be relieved.

Instructions: Steps  on How to make  Coconut  Oil 



Step 1: Remove the pulp from the coconut. When you have collected the meat from all coconuts, grate it.

Step 2: Remove the coconut milk from the meat by squeezing it with your hands in a muslin cloth. Hold a bowl under the cloth to collect the liquid. You can add very little hot water to it for easy handling and squeeze out all the milk.

Step 3: After the coconut milk has been extracted, strain it with a muslin cloth to remove any impurities.

Step 4: Place the coconut milk in a copper vessel and set it on fire. Let it cook for 2 to 3 hours, but make sure to keep the heat low.

Step 5: Keep stirring every now and then until the milk turns brown in color. However, be careful not to burn it, as coconut milk has a very delicate texture.

Step 6: Once the milk is concentrated, remove it from the heat and let it cool. Place the cooled thickened milk in a muslin cloth and wring out the oil. Collect it in a bowl and then store it in a can or plastic bottle.

Note: This homemade coconut oil easily lasts a year or at least 8 to 10 months. You must place it in an airtight container and do not leave it in the open air, otherwise it can become contaminated and lose its properties.
